County Court Fees Increased

Friday, August 14th, 2009

Changes to civil Court fees were made, effective from mid July 2009, according to Her Majesty’s Court Service.

There were changes to 30 types of Civil Court fee out of the 200 plus fees in operation but most of these changes relate to applications to enforce County Court Judgements that have already been obtained for outstanding debt claims. HMCS has stated that these will be recoverable from the defaulters but the main problem of course is to get them to pay in the first place!

Please visit our County Court fees section for the new fees but we would draw particular attention to the fee for sending in a Bailiff to collect a debt which has risen substantially to £100.00 (previously there were two fees of £35.00 and £55.00 respectively). This now gives additional weight to using the Sheriff Service which Jack Russell prefers to use in any event. Other increases have been applied to Charging Order applications, applications to summon debtors to attend the Court for a Financial Questioning Examination and Third Party Order applications.

Please contact our Legal Department for more detailed information.
